{"id":14949,"date":"2012-10-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-30T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.soundpr.it\/post_news\/what-are-you-wearing\/"},"modified":"2019-09-24T13:03:05","modified_gmt":"2019-09-24T11:03:05","slug":"what-are-you-wearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.soundpr.it\/en\/ispirazioni\/what-are-you-wearing\/","title":{"rendered":"What are you wearing?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This guest post is by Scott Hanson of <a title=\"HMA Public Relations\" href=\"http:\/\/hmapr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HMA Public Relations<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This week\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/phoenix\/poll\/results\/9514782#comments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Phoenix Business Journal<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>poll asks:\u00a0 \u201cHas workplace attire become too casual?\u201d<br \/>\nThe term \u201ccasual\u201d certainly means different things to different people, particularly from a geographic standpoint.<br \/>\nIn the southwestern United States, workplace attire tends to be much, much more casual than anywhere else in the world. \u00a0At <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Business_casual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cbusiness casual\u201d<\/a> meetings and events at our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prgn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Public Relations Global Network<\/a> meetings, I am always \u2013 by far \u2013 the most casually \u2013 and comfortably dressed.<br \/>\nA few years ago, a Phoenix mayor even went so far as to declare during a news conference that neck-ties should not be worn during the summer months. \u00a0Our \u201c100-Degree Rule\u201d also eliminates suit coats altogether when the mercury rises that high.<br \/>\nWith summer temperatures well above 100 degrees here, HMA Public Relations goes even further.\u00a0 Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, we have \u201cShorts Fridays,\u201d when staff members can wear shorts to work if they choose, provided they do not have client meetings.<br \/>\nEven during the winter months in the Desert Southwest, we have casual Fridays, which allow for jeans \u2013 as long as they\u2019re presentable.\u00a0 \u201cBusiness casual\u201d in Arizona can mean jeans and a golf shirt or a short-sleeve button-down.<br \/>\nWhile that\u2019s not the case everywhere, it\u2019s trending that way.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We start in one of the world\u2019s fashion capitols, Milan, Italy.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundpr.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/profilo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alessandra Malvermi<\/a>, managing partner of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundpr.it\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sound Public Relations<\/a>, stated, \u201cBy and large, too formal clothing is not required in Italian offices. The perfect look is the casual chic. The watchword is \u2018in good taste.\u2019 The best way to show up for work is being neat and at ease, getting dressed graciously and never going over the top.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feareygroup.com\/team\/aaron-blank.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Blank<\/a>, president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.feareygroup.com\/#home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Fearey Group<\/a> in Seattle, said, \u201cWe are business attire Monday through Thursday and business casual (ONLY if you do not have a client meeting) on Fridays. We were starting to become too casual on Fridays so we needed to remind staff about our policy.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.curriecom.com.au\/the-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Paterson,<strong> <\/strong>FPRIA<\/a>, principal of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.curriecommunications.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Currie Communications<\/a> in Melbourne, Australia, provided this perspective: \u201cThe standard of dress in the workplace has \u2018casualized,\u2019 in direct proportion with\u00a0the increased flexibility of\u00a0workplace hours,\u00a0the greater mobility\u00a0of the workforce and the globalization of business hours. Nowadays, it\u2019s not unusual to join\u00a0an international teleconference call across several time zones wearing\u00a0pajamas. Too casual?\u00a0Well, communications technology means that not every appointment judges us by what we wear.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.groundfloormedia.com\/meet_gfm\/the_team\/bios\/bio-robinson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ramonna Robinson<\/a>, vice president and managing partner of Denver\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.groundfloormedia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GroundFloor Media<\/a>, had this to say: \u201cI personally believe that professionals dress up or down for the occasion, and that people know the appropriate attire for each situation so I haven\u2019t encountered anyone that is \u2018too casual.\u2019\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Philadelphia\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buchananpr.com\/team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anne Buchanan<\/a>, president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buchananpr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buchanan Public Relations<\/a>, echoed.\u00a0 \u201cWe rely on employees\u2019 good judgment when it comes to dress. On days when we are not meeting with clients, nice jeans are perfectly fine. I cannot recall having had to speak to an employee about inappropriate dress. Casual attire is one of the benefits of working here. As long as employees exercise good judgment, we allow a lot of latitude. When client contact is part of the day, we dress to demonstrate respect and professionalism.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicrelations-germany.com\/we-are\/team.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uwe Schmidt<\/a>, partner with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicrelations-germany.com\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IC AG Public Relations<\/a> of Hamburg, Germany, commented, \u201cOur workplace attire is very casual but we \u2018disguise\u2019 of course when expecting clients. By the way, ties become more-and-more less important. All this reflects the new German relaxed manner.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/vpe-pr.com\/ourTeam.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Echeveste<\/a>, a partner with <a href=\"http:\/\/vpe-pr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VPE Public Relations<\/a> which specializes in reaching the U.S. Hispanic market, noted,\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m glad the days of suffocating neckties are over, that\u2019s for sure!\u00a0 I think we\u2019re still defining an \u2018office casual\u2019 style that is somewhere between more than \u2018street casual\u2019 but short of suits and dresses.\u00a0 In the meantime, it\u2019s a case-by-case basis, but no flip flops, tank tops, or loud tee-shirts, please.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In Poland, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.multipr.pl\/en\/cms\/leaders\/79,mariusz-pleban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mariusz Pleban<\/a> president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.multipr.pl\/en\/cms\/home-page\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Multi Communications<\/a>, said, \u201cPeople tend to attune. With time more and more influencers wear more casual clothes. With time they want to feel more and more comfortably. With time more people feel the society push to wear exactly the same (type) clothes others, such as celebrities, wear. Being different hurts and 95 percent of people are followers who do not want to suffer. Casual will become normal. Watch out \u2013 with time asking the question \u2018has attire in the workplace become too casual?\u2019 may be a sign of being dinosaur. Would you wear the 1800s suit when going to the bank now..?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecastlegrp.com\/about\/leadership\/sandy-lish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sandy Lish<\/a>, principal and founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecastlegrp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Castle Group<\/a> in Boston joked, \u201cHas workplace attire become too casual?
