Having grown up in Northern Japan, spent his teenage years in Colorado (where he discovered his love for mountain biking), studied graphic design in New York City, then returning to Tokyo to inadvertently hone his passion for street culture, Kazuki\u2019s intriguing life groomed him to be a perfect collaborator for TNF Urban Exploration.<\/p>\n<p>He explains of his new collection: \u201cWhile inspiration was drawn from various fields, I focused on expanding the brand\u2019s overall \u2018Shelter\u2019 theme, offering protection in an urban environment.\u201d Incorporating TNF\u2019s modern \u201cwearable technologies\u201d in his designs, the Kazuki collection features: waterproof, windproof and breathable<em>Gore-Tex\u00ae<\/em>protection; lightweight, packable <em>Primaloft\u00ae<\/em>insulation; and soft, windproof, breathable<em>Pertex\u00ae<\/em>wicking fabric. Kazuki adds: \u201cYet, even though the clothes themselves aren\u2019t simple, the clothes can be simply worn by anyone. I wanted to make each piece easy to wear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kazuki collection\u2019s first drop features 14 menswear pieces, including three jacket styles, three top\/T-shirt designs and one pant (all in two colorways each). The highlight style, Kazuki says, is the DryVent\u2122 Jacket, which boasts a technical\/utility design element. \u201cThe pocket has one of the most distinct finishes,\u201d he explains, \u201cwhere you can take the long tape, roll up the jacket and sling it over your shoulder like a bag. In this piece, function definitely came first before design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Famed as an exceptional \u201cfunctional streetwear\u201d designer, Kazuki\u2019s career began as an intern for NIGO at the iconic Japanese brand, A Bathing Ape; and flourished under the mentorship of Hiroshi Fujiwara of fragment design.
